The RTR-52Pt is compact, portable and battery operated. Sensors are attached using a standard three wire screw terminal block. The unit features a large LCD display for reading current values and the device status. The RTR 52Pt can store 8,000 readings in either one-time or endless recording mode. This model is also compatible with any TandD RTR-5x series of wireless data collectors.

Ellipse Flow Meter Overcomes Loss of Accuracy

The new Preso Ellipse flow meter has a patented elliptical design with aerodynamic characteristics that outperform more traditional devices, and overcome loss of accuracy caused by fluid separation at the sensor body.  It is tested in the field, and offers the added accuracy.

The Preso Ellipse flow meter is designed with a series of ports facing the upstream velocity pressures and flow sensing ports strategically located ahead of the trailing edge flow separation.  As a result of this design, the Ellipse is capable of added accuracy in measuring the actual differential pressure (DP) signal.  It obtains ±3 to 4 percent accuracy of readings and a repeatability of ±0.1 percent of readings.  It also achieved an impressive turndown ratio of 17:1 with no vacuum effects.  A typical 3 percent of DP in a 12-inches (300 mm) line is the lowest pressure loss in the industry. The Ellipse features also airfoil characteristics that offer very low permanent pressure loss and eliminates noise transmission.

Semaphore Adds Coronis Systems Wireless Sensor Driver to Compact SCADA System

Semaphore has introduced a firmware update that allows its T-Box line of RTU products to communicate with a network of Coronis Systems wireless sensor products. The T-Box RTU line is the first IP-based telemetry solution that enables complete integration of SCADA, control, and communications functionality in one rugged package and the addition of a driver for wireless sensors gives users even greater flexibility in implementing cost-effective SCADA system solutions.

The driver brings the benefits of T-Box technology to SCADA system applications such as automated meter reading (AMR), industrial monitoring and infrastructure management. The T-Box RTU can serve information including alarms, live status, machine health, trends and historical reports to multiple recipients via the Internet, Intranets, e-mail or SMS text messaging.

Coronis Systems sensor products provide a reliable solution for monitoring and recording process data wirelessly in energy, food and beverage, industrial and water supply applications. Based on Wavenis ultra low power (ULP) wireless technology, the Coronis Systems sensor products benefit from long battery life and make wireless solutions possible even in the most hard-to-reach places.

T-Box provides Windows menus that allow simple configuration of messaging as well as reports for alarming, live information, historical information and trends. No programming is required. Also easily configured are Web pages, which include live and historical information as well as graphical representations of site conditions. The reports and web pages are resident within the T-Box RTU and are available to all recipients on their PDAs or personal computers.

Sixnet Releases Slim Industrial Ethernet Modem

Sixnet has introduced the newest member of the Slim Line Family, the Remote Access Switch (SL-5MS-MDM). This product brings together an industrial telephone modem with an industrial 5-port managed Ethernet switch. This combination enables integrators and plant engineers to dial into the plant from remote locations saving a trip and providing quicker service at the same time.

Five Ethernet ports serve as an industrially hardened switch saving the expense of a separately purchased and installed Ethernet switch. The switch can be used as a "plug and play" unmanaged switch or take advantage of the suite of Sixnet managed switch features such as RSTP (rapid spanning tree protocol) for fast redundant rings. This means, even after a break in a communications pathway, messages will be delivered.

Sixnet managed switches can even detect and report network problems before they seriously affect network operations. The unit also has a self-test/alarm output signal plus authentication and encryption features.

Features of the integrated industrial telephone modem include easy and secure dial-in connections, PPP (point-to-point) for dial-up connections and automatic dial-out on a trigger input. Connection speeds are fast, up to 56 Kbps. Sixnet modems are also compliant with phone (PSTN) systems world-wide, ensuring ease of use, just about anywhere.

The SL-5MS-MDM is compliant with a slue of industrial standards for use in truly open systems. The hardware carries many industrial ratings and certifications for use in harsh environments, and boasts a 1,000,000 hours MTBF, along with a -40 to 75°C operating temperate.

Xecom XE900SL10-N Targets Wireless Sensor Networks

Xecom, Inc. has released a new version of the XE900SL10, 900 MHz frequency hopping radio. The XE900SL10-N targets remote sensor networks by increasing the number of available network nodes, increasing data throughput and providing additional communications options.

The first generation XE900SL10 focused on link reliability and data integrity, while the XE900SL10-N simplifies communications for larger sensor networks. The maximum number of nodes supported in a single network increases from 256 to more than 65,000. As before, 256 unique frequency hopping algorithms permit multiple unique networks to coexist, but those networks can now be larger. Link overhead is reduced to increase real data transfer rates up to three times. A new broadcast data mode allows a message to be transmitted simultaneously to all other network nodes.

The XE900SL10-N continues many of the special features Xecom introduced in the original XE900SL10. These features include SensorOnAir, patent pending, to read remote sensors, multiple power saving modes to prolong battery life, and integrated analog and digital I/O lines for direct connection of sensors.

Zonet Launches Night-Vision Security Cameras With Audio

These network cameras are easy to set up and small enough to be placed almost anywhere. With their own IP address and built-in web server, they connect directly to the user’s network and can be remotely accessed from a standard Web browser.

The security cameras feature superior image quality in three different resolutions, up to VGA (640x480), with transfer rates of 30 frames-per-second. With the built-in omni-directional microphone, users can not only see but also hear what’s transpiring; and with the included night-vision capabilities, users can even see in the dark. Both models offer the ability to record streaming video with sound to a hard drive, or schedule and upload images to FTP or send over email. In addition, both models feature motion detection and customizable automated alert notifications.

The night-vision IP cameras provide an easy access browser interface, allowing users can keep a remote eye and ear on locations. The IP cameras are well suited for entrances and exits or anywhere a little extra visibility is needed. In addition, users can easily broadcast video activities to viewers in real-time over a local network or the Internet.

Town Replaces Water Meters with Help from TAC

The Town of Woodstock, Va. has completed a $1.2 million t own-wide water meter replacement project, installing more than 1,800 new water meters with automatic meter reading (AMR) capability. The new meters will reduce read times and more accurately measure water usage, which should allow the town to receive more than $25,000 in additional revenue annually.

Woodstock town officials recognized the need to upgrade water meter infrastructure a few years ago, but lacked the staff resources to manage the process. The town contracted with TAC to provide the personnel and project management expertise for the water meter change-out.

“The ability to accurately measure water usage not only allows our town to correctly bill customers for the water they actually use, but enables us to understand our water needs,” said Larry Bradford, Woodstock town manager. “Now we have real data on town water consumption, so we can make forecasts and effectively manage our water resources to meet demand today and in the future.”

TAC completed the project in just six months, with minimal impact on town staff, versus the five to 10 years the town estimated it would need relying on its own limited resources. With the new meters installed, the read time was reduced from one week to four hours, and the meters will accurately measure water flow to provide for precise customer billing. TAC installed an AMR system from Neptune Technology Group.
